Simply The Best

31 Mar

There are certain smells, feelings, and things that make this life of mine completely awesome. Little things that would mean nothing to anyone else, but to me they are simply the best. Everyone has their own “bests” and part of finding happiness is to know your happy places and seek them out whenever possible. This is key when life gets a little challenging and you need to pick yourself up. Yes, it isn’t always that easy and once in awhile everyone needs a good mad to clean their head. But if you know your “bests” then you have the power to turn your day around. Make sense? For example, here are some of my “bests”:

Best Outfit- worn jeans, thrifted tee shirt, college sweatshirt, flip flops from Old Navy

Best Song- “Love Shack” by The B-52′s

Best Smell- freshly bathed babies

Best Sound- my little girls singing with all their hearts

Best Feeling- crawling into bed after a very long day and just taking a breath

Best Taste- ice cold watermelon on a hot summer day

Best Place- the beach right before a storm rolls in

Best Pick-Me-Up- new socks

Best Time of Day- late at night when everyone is asleep and the house is still

Best Stress Reliever- swearing in Spanish, screaming in the car, dancing, cooking…. many things!

this is just one of my 100 favorite things (you can see them all here!)

So, if you are feeling a little down or stressed, think about your best… use one if you need to.

Seriously, how can anyone feel pissed when dancing around to Love Shack?! =)

More Hair Cuts

Being a mommy to little girls I am very aware of the simple fact that everything I do is seen with impressionable little eyes, from how I feel about my body to how I dress.

Up until this point I just sort of go about my daily routines and if they have questions about what I do they ask,

“Mommy what are you putting on your face? What is that you are using on your eyelashes? What are Spanx?”

Last week when I cut my hair made more of an impression than I realized though,

both girls asked to get their hair cut on Tues!

Gabby has gorgeous thick hair that was past her shoulders and AJ has wispy thinner hair that had grown out of her pixie cut.

This is the after photo!

Cute right?!

Gabby’s haircut makes her seem so much older now and AJ no longer looks like a homeless orphan, lol.

They love it too because I am no longer chasing them around with rubber bands and a brush!

It was a pretty cool feeling when Gabby asked the stylist to cut her hair just like Mommy’s… very cool indeed!

Things That Make Me Happy

29 Mar

In keeping with trying to take care of myself it is really important that I keep up my upbeat nature and surround myself with things that are happy. This is actually a pretty easy thing because I see beauty, happiness, and good everywhere. It is the little things that make me smile from painting Moira’s toes to a quiet moment with a good book. I have relied on this ability a lot in my childhood, before and after I was put in foster care, and make an effort everyday to find something new and happy to see.

Here are some things that I found that are pretty cool!

I love drinking lemonade out of a Mason Jar, these tops are so neat and pretty.

The girls love to have me paint their nails… these treat eggs are going in their Easter basket!

“You Are My Sunshine” is one of my favorite songs to sing around the house, these prints are lovely

Nothing is sweeter than reading to a baby, celebrate with pretty bookends in animal shapes.

We are watching the Muppet Movie right now and are obsessed with all things Muppet!! Love this poster!!!

Watching my cats look at birds outside makes me giggle. I must make this for them!!

Unsightly nails do not make me happy… stick a nifty leaf cover on them and voila! Happiness!!

{What little things make you happy?}

Still Here

27 Mar

I’m still here and I’m sorry that I haven’t posted in a couple of days. I have had a family crisis and am still reeling from the event, the fall out, and the severity of what happened. I have talked about my brother who tried to kill himself last year because he was severely depressed. Unfortunately depression has affected another member of my family to the point where I had to get outside help to intervene.

Scary doesn’t begin to describe what it feels like to know that someone you love wants to take their life and has the means to do so with ease. I have never been in that situation, where I didn’t know what to do and how to calm the person down. I am so very thankful that I had friends that I could call for support who advised me that I needed help quickly from professionals.

I have been reading a lot about this disease and am lucky enough to have an online support group that I have been talking to for the past year. It is really hard because I have a lot on my plate as it is with teaching dance, recitals, homeschooling, a baby, etc. I feel like I am treading water in a very chopping sea… at any moment a wave is going to topple me under and I won’t be any use to anyone.

I had posts planned about Easter, about the news that are being proposed that would taken away even more rights from women, posts about fun carefree stuff. But the events from Saturday are still fresh in my mind and I am trying to sort out all the emotions and logistics of what happened and how to make sure that it never, ever, happens again. I am going to go to a support group to help me with the new level that this disease has taken my loved one, all I do know is that I am going to fight like hell to help and going to rally everyone we know to help as well. Just like a person would call for help if a disease like cancer or diabetes struck, mental illness is no different.

So yes, I am here and the fun, normal Connie, posts will be back. Hang in there with me and if you could send a kind word or thought my way I would greatly appreciate it. Trust me, every one will be read and treasured. Thank you dear friends.
