My little witch peeking in the woods!
Every year we get more and more into Halloween. I love dressing up, the face painting, choosing the perfect costume, and watching the girls plan their own special look. It is something that we look forward to all year long. This year we decided to do a Halloween photo shoot instead of getting dark and blurry photos of the girls at night. I always lament and the dimly lit photos taken in haste, amidst children who are practically vibrating from the sugar!
This year the girls went pretty simple with their costume choices, thankfully! I however, decided that I wanted to be a peacock and after getting nauseated by the price and style of the choices in the Halloween stores (sexy peacock?! ick!) I put together my own costume. I bought the mask and wings separate, and made my tutu- something that will be able to be used by the girls for either dress up play of for their own costume next year! I must say that my little one makes an adorable baby unicorn as well!
Here are some of my favorite photos from the shoot:

Back of the peacock costume- Wings are from Target, mask is from a local craft store, the tutu is made from 6 rolls of tulle!
I’m super happy with the photos and can’t wait to get even more photos of the girls in costume!
Ok friends, I’m not going to lie- it’s been a hell of a week. One week ago my world crashed, burned, and kept on crashing until umm… yesterday. It was one thing after another and I’m not talking about breaking a nail or locking myself out of the house. I’m talking about “HOLY CRAP! What sacred flame did I pee on in a past life?!” kind of stuff going on. But now things are back on solid ground and I am going to get back to my normal routine of crafting, homeschooling, cooking, and well… life. =) I’m sure as things process that I will share what happened… It’s a little too real right now and I need to get myself moving forward past it all.
Today we took the girls to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History for their Halloween event called Owls and Howls. It was free for kids who came in costume and of course I couldn’t pass up a chance to dress up, I LOVE Halloween! As an added bonus we got 4 free tickets to the Lake Erie Monsters hockey game next Friday- yay!! (I’m from Buffalo, hockey is in my blood!) I’m excited to take the girls to their first hockey game next week.
I’ve been seeing such cool links, crafts, recipes, and more online lately… It wouldn’t truly be a welcome back post without some linky love!! Before I unleash the awesomeness I do want to thank each and every one of my friends who reached out to give me support, who wrote me a kind word, who called to see how things were. It meant so much and I know I would have been able to stay strong and positive. Thank you all!

I have to dress up for Halloween in all my dance classes this week and in turning myself into a lion I did a quick search of easy but effective makeup tutorials to transform myself. I came across the coolest, prettiest, and most fashionable blog ever called From Head to Toe.
Jen is a cute, pretty, petite Korean chicky who loves fashion and beauty. Her tutorials are easy to follow, technique is flawless, and you can tell she has a genuine knack for fashion and beauty. I watched in amazement as she transformed herself into a pretty lion that wasn’t hokey or overdone and was inspired to do the same. Watch!!
Isn’t that amazing?!
Then I started browsing the rest of her blog and discovered how to do a gradient effect on my nails, a good skincare routine, what drugstore brands are good, and so much more. Seriously, if you want to see cute hairstyles, simple makeup tutorials, and neat nail effects this is the place to go!
Just recently Jen posted a tutorial on how to do Belle makeup which turned out really pretty and sweet. I can’t wait to see what else this awesome blog has in store!
(Speaking of doing Halloween makeup, check out this fun leopard makeup I did for AJ. She wanted to go to the zoo to see leopards and so she became one!)
Yesterday was a beautiful and pleasantly warm day here in NE Ohio. The trees still had a bit of color to them and the sky was shining blue. Klint and I decided to venture to the Cleveland Metroparks for some fall activities and as a bonus, the girls got to dress up. It is no secret that dressing up in costumes in pretty common in our house. We go to the library as ninjas, the grocery store as dinos, and have been known to even venture into the mall as pirates. But, any occasion that actually calls for costumes is a huge bonus! Gabby decided to try out her tiger getup while AJ opted for the tried and true poodle costume. She is actually going as a baby leopard for Halloween, but knew that she could be whatever she wanted yesterday. And, since it was Moira’s first Halloween she also got to wear her baby lion costume.
At the Chalet there were quite a few things for everyone to do. We started out with a hayride that included some pretty big hay fights!
Then the girls painted a pumpkin and danced to some fun music.
Balloon animals were made, hockey mascot was high-fived, and there was even a little hay maze for the kids to go through!
Moira got lots of smiles and comments, her costume was a bit cumbersome with the plush lion head attached to her belly. Still, she looked awful cute, as always!
All in all, it was a wonderful time with the girls and Klint. I am so glad that we had such a nice fall day to do it.
There shall be more Halloween goodness coming your way this week…
Do you have any Halloween traditions that you look forward to?
