Randomness

13 May

Whew! This has indeed been a week folks… we are at the point in moving where there are just a few random boxes left… with crap that you don’t need or know what to do with. I am ready to just toss the junk out and be done with it lol! We had a heck of a time at the co-op Thursday, people brought their ducks, chickens, and goats!!!! Awesome doesn’t even begin to describe this group of people that are like family to me. Instead of our normal routine of of classes and such we took a quick vote to scratch that and instead have a full day of letting the kids and parents just play, learn where they wanted, and just “be”. It was beautiful and the day was a huge success in my mind.

I have been seeing some really cool recipes and ideas on Pinterest and my fingers have been itching to sew again. I want to give my student teachers a gift in appreciation for all their hard work this dance year and decided to make them each bags for their shoes or something useful like that. Maybe this emergency clutch for Band-aids and hair bands? I like this simple tutorial for a bag to hold their shoes as well… lord knows I have enough fabric! =P

The web and media at large are all talking about the TIME cover showing a mom nursing an almost 4 yr old boy. I cannot express how disappointed I am in the magazine for using something so beautiful to shock people and start controversy- all to sell some magazines. The response to the provocative cover has been mixed from celebration to shock and disgust, women attacking women for doing what they feel is best for their children. I applaud this momma for speaking out again the women of The View who were particularly vicious and uninformed about the benefits and norms of extended nursing. Just because a child can ask to nurse does not mean he or she needs to be be weaned!

Sigh… where was I? Oh yes… I am in love with this song and am currently bopping around the kitchen to it in pure happiness!

Love love love it!

I would love to make these, while wearing this, and living here… I’m just saying…. who’s with me?

Thanks to the move I haven’t crafted in awhile and my project book is growing by the day. (Thanks a lot Pinterest!!) I am itching to make this mirror for my dining room in yellow or green, this pillow for our gazillion remote controls, and these for all my herbs and plants I just started.

I hope that all my fellow moms out there are having a good mother’s day, filled with peace, relaxation, and lots of love. (If not then here are some neat printables that could help you out!) Enjoy and I will be back tomorrow!

CD Review: Ladybug Music

24 Jan

While we were at the library yesterday I decided to check out some new music for my dance classes. Because I teach preschoolers and Kinder classes I have the wonderful option to really explore music with them and am not restricted by whats cool or hip on the radio. Many times I will just browse the library’s CD collection and pick up music with neat titles or great artwork. Two of the CDs that I picked up were by a company called Ladybug Music. I had no clue that they are actually CDs from music and movement classes but I am completely smitten with the music!

We got The Purple Collection and The Yellow Collection to try and I can’t stress enough how much FUN the music is! From classic children’s rhymes to ethnic tunes, the CD changes styles and speed with ease, keeping the children engaged and adding variety to their movements. Not to mention that the songs aren’t sickly sweet so the parents enjoy them too. My favorite was a song called Crawdad which has a hoe-down kinda feel, prompting the kids, Klint, and I to start square dancing in the middle of the living room- much to Moira’s delight! You can listen to a sneak peek of all the songs here, but they are truly worth having if you have kids or are around kids at all.

I think it is really important to vary kids music from The Beatles to Sesame Street and also different ethnic music like Gaelic or African. You will be surprised what they like! Gabby prefers House music and traditional Irish while AJ likes pop, classical piano, and Moira loves Robyn and Selena Gomez. The only thing we don’t really listen to is hard rap or screaming hair bands. =)

I would definitely recommend Ladybug Music series to all my friends! Hop over and listen to some of their songs yourself!!

{Right Now}

1 Dec

Right now I am….

{reading} The Hunger Games… what great books! I was up until almost 2 in the morning reading the first one!

{eating} Goldfish Cocoa Adventures crackers- They are addicting, especially with a tall glass of milk.

{listening} to Pandora’s Sesame street station. Moira is in looooooove with Grover, Cookie Monster, and Elmo

{making} some scarves for good friends, in some beautiful chunky roving. Eternity scarves are my new favorite and bestest.

{feeling} relieved that my recent crazy schedule is over with. I love selling books but hate being away from the girls, especially Moira.

{watching} AJ complete a sticker book, Moira patter around on every more confidant legs, and Gabby read a new book (with her tongue sticking out of her mouth

{knowing} that in a blink of an eye this scene will look very different and these girls of mine will be grown up

{thinking} about all the yummy Christmas cookies I want to make, like these and these!

{dancing} to this song…. it is a beautiful rendition of my favorite Christmas carol

{wearing} my comfiest torn jeans, glasses, and a simple long sleeve tee… a comfortable outfit before the dance clothes are back on

{hoping} that I can get everything together for Moira’s party, Christmas, and our 8 yr anniversary… two of which are in a week!

{learning} how to use the Sock Loom that Klint bought me as an early anniversary gift! I am so excited to make my own socks =)

{wishing} that there were more hours in the day to make things, play with the girls, dance, and just enjoy life.

{loving} all the Elf on the Shelf ideas on Pinterest… like the elf donuts shown above! (They are really Cherrios!!)

Happy Thursday!
