My Crazy Life

How is everyone doing? I don’t know about you all, but I am SO ready for fall weather!! It has been so hot, humid, and just plain yuck here. I am ready for boots, scarves, cute hats, plaid jackets, colorful leaves, and pumpkin EVERYTHING!

But with fall comes the start of my crazy life… and I seriously mean crazy!! So this is what I am up to:

I am teaching 19 dance classes a week for Dancexcel. Yes, 19. I am so excited to meet all of my classes, and spread my love of dance to all my students.img_7202

Then I added another dance project called Reach Out and Dance. This is a program based on another called Rosie’s Theater Kids… Rosie as in Rosie O’Donnell. I get to go into public schools and teach school kids dance in place of their normal gym time. It is a really great project because I feel like it is giving back through my talents and it exposes kids to dance who don’t pay for classes at a studio.

AND earlier this month I auditioned for and was cast in a local production of Beauty and the Beast through a company called Mighty Goliath Productions. I am so excited because I am always on the production team end of musicals and it has been a very long time since I have been actually IN one! And even better, my co-worker/bride to my bridesmaid/partner in crime Miranda is also in it with me. She has never done a musical so this is a new experience for her, making it even more fun for me!

(We just ended our teaching night so forgive the sweatiness!)

Then aside from my crazy career, I also have not one for two homeschool co-ops- FLOW and Nature Rangers. And of course, playdates/field trips/reading/ meal planning/ cleaning/ zoo-keeping/ and life. Lol, and I didn’t even mention Klint and all of his schedule! img_7215

What does your crazy life look like? Lay it on me!

Friday Favorite Five

Oh. My. Goodness. I cannot stress how happy I am that this week is over. What a looooooong friggin’ week! Sigh…. I am in a slightly cranky mood thanks to the weather, my children’s cleaning habits (or lack thereof), and am just over the cold/grey/tundra that is Cleveland OH. So to brighten up the mood here are my Friday Favorite Five!!

IMG_08481. Fall Flavors Salad!!! Yummo!!! It is spinach, pear, apple, dried cranberries, bacon, diced turkey, topped with poppyseed dressing. Loving it!!

These are super comfy and look really great on your foot. I love how they are pretty but actually practical! KEEN Footwear - Women's Mercer Ballerina CNX

2.  My new rugged Ballerina flats by Keen- I am in LOVE with these! Not only are they pretty and comfortable but they are practical for running errands and playing with the girls. You can get yours here!

3. I am loving this color scheme, so fresh and fun. I think it would be perfect in a kitchen or a half bath!

4. This is my new favorite dance song!!!

What are your favorites from this week? Are you glad it is almost over?

It’s Dancey Dance Time

Today we had our first rehearsal for the Teacher’s Dance for the annual recital. I am pleased to say that not only is the dance cute but I can do it all with relatively little knee pain! Hooray! (I have patella femoral syndrome as well as tendonitis in my IT band) I am excited to show the dance to my students!

Dance is one of those things I don’t talk about as much. You would think that I would because not only is it my career but my passion. But I don’t because it is like a private stash of chocolate. It makes me feel grounded when my life is in turmoil, it makes unpleasant chores fly by, and it is something that is constant and true. I enjoy all forms of dance from the classic ballet to watching a grandma rock out on her porch, from a good routine in a musical to some good old fashioned booty shaking in a club.

danceThese are some of my favorite dancey things: 1. I love this graphic that I found originally on Pinterest.  2. Here are some great stretches for dancers, especially for tight hips!  3. I love these cute flash cards for little ballerinas.  4. Even reading about dance is fun, this one about tap and this one about ballet are my favorites!  5. If you are a fan of So You Think You Can Dance here are 12 routines that are chill worthy.  6. I adore tattoos and love this watercolor one almost as much as the quote one I just got in December.

I also love these toe socks, this adorable 1st position coloring page, this ballet boot camp challenge, these secret Pandora work out stations, and finally this is my ULTIMATE favorite rendition of The Cup Song by Anna Kendrick. LOVE tap dancers, especially of the male variety! 😉

I also follow some dance companies on Instagram and Facebook and am a HUGE Fan of The Dancer Project– she always posts really great things! There you have a little glimpse of some of the dance things that I check out and enjoy, have a good night!!

Almost to the Finish Line

Sorry for the mini hiatus friends! I have been MIA from basically everything except dance, which has taken over my life. I offered to design the yearbook for the dance studio, a feat that I didn’t realize the fullness of until I was waist deep in photos, ads, and graphics. Since this was our first time creating something like this there was no template to go by, therefore I had to start from scratch for all 80 pages plus full color covers. I am super pleased with how it turned out in the end though and can’t wait for the families of our dancers to see the finished product.

Along with the yearbook I have been making gifts for my dancers and student teachers, making sure Amelia knows her dance well since she is front and center, and searching high and low for cute dresses to wear at recital since this year the teachers aren’t doing a dance. I am especially excited to wear this beauty, which I scored for half off!

Even though the recital hasn’t even happened yet I am already looking ahead to next dance season and putting together routines, picking out awesome music for the recital, and gearing up for a new set of classes. It is thrilling to think about how far each and every one of my dancers has come from fall to now, especially since I tend to teach the newest dancers. Thanks to Pinterest I am going to utilize some teacher tools like a getting to know you sheet, an organizational binder, and a cheat sheets with students photos with names so I can learn them quickly.

Well, that’s about it for now. I have a couple of posts scheduled for this week since I am going to be at dress rehearsals and such, but wanted to leave this for you to watch…. it’s beautiful and a song I am going to be using next year. The choreography is amazing as well as the reason for the flash mob! Happy Week friends!

My Weekend

34This weekend has been calm, quiet, and pretty low key. Outside it looks like the inside of a snow globe, huge flakes drifting everywhere, all day long. I have been busy choreographing for the dance recital, teaching my little ones their routines, and taking my daily photos for my 365 project. I went to Trader Joe’s and picked up some gorgeous white tulips to brighten the dining room table and have been making batches of scones (which get gobbled up before I can take photos). All in all it has been pretty nice.

My goal is to get back into the habit of blogging everyday or every other day, even if it is just a quick hello. I had forgotten how nice it was to de-stress by writing more about what is happening in my life. =)

26Well, back to working on dance stuff, have a great night and see you back here tomorrow!!

Sea Dragons, Books, and Ballet Shoes!

Whew! What a week so far!! This week has been chock full of funness and it seems like the fun isn’t going to be over anytime soon. =) Hmmmm… where to begin?

Well Tuesday the girls and I got to model for my friend Ali who is a face painter and VERY gifted artist. It was beyond a blast! I am just as giddy about it and can’t wait to have her come to AJ’s birthday party to paint faces. I think my friends and their kids are in for a treat, just check out Gabby’s cat face and the awesome sea dragon on mine. (AJ blurred hers out accidentally before I could get a good pic.)

Aren’t they amazing! I am in love with sea dragons so this was especially cool for me. =)

We have been spending a lot of time in the various libraries lately, always a plus in my book. It’s funny because we always agree to not get more books than we can carry and then end up taking out way more books that this poor mama ends up carrying. I honestly don’t mind though… the girls and I have a lot of interests and books only fuel the fire. Here are some of the books currently on our shelf:

A wonderful list and only a small fraction of what we actually have out, lol!

Finally, Miss Amelia had her first real dance class yesterday! It was exciting and a little bittersweet because it made me see the little lady that she is all too quickly becoming. I would have put her in dance last year but I wanted a year at my studio to get acquainted before I threw my kids in the mix lol! I also didn’t want her to be in one of my classes, been there done that, it just doesn’t work out well. So this year AJ is in Miss Mandy’s class, a lovely teacher who I know will both teach and inspire. She couldn’t stop talking about class and her favorite teacher, lol, it was cute. Here are some of the photos this proud Dance Mom had to take, lol!

Sigh… she is growing up too fast!!!!!

Have a great day friends!

Well, I survived my first recital week with Dancexcel. It was one of the most intense, physically demanding, emotional, and enjoyable weeks I ever had. There were times when I was smiling so big that my cheeks hurt and other moments that I was sure I was going to throw up from the stress. Our job was to put on a recital that ran smooth, kept the safety of our students in mind at all times, and was fun to watch and I know that we did that- something that not every dance studio can do.

After working at studios that are disorganized I appreciate a well thought out recital. Most of the parents didn’t know that we start thinking about songs and costumes well before Christmas and have our dances choreographed before returning from Christmas break. Every detail is ironed out, spelled out, and conveyed many times over to our parents so there is no confusion about what is going on or expected.

I loved watching all of my little girls smiling for their parents in their costumes, seeing a year’s worth of hard work come out on stage, and feeling so proud of a job well done. Of course there will little bits that they forgot and things that they did, like stopping in the middle of the dance to take a solo bow!, that weren’t choreographed in, but the audience ate it up. Nothing cuter than 3 and 4 year-olds in tutus!

And then of course, I also danced in the shows with the other teachers! Oh yes, after years of just teaching I got up there and danced… it was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to do it again next year.

I love working at this studio so much that I am going to enroll AJ in a Kinder class for fall (not with me) so she can dance in the recital as well. She has been asking to take dance again and now that I know all of the teachers I am fully confident that no matter who she takes class with she will learn a lot and be thrilled. It is an amazing thing to be able to share this art with my girls and I am so very excited to get teaching again for the summer!

Anyone in the greater Cleveland area who is looking for a dance studio for their kids, Dancexcel is the place to go. All of us teachers work great together, we strive to make sure every child learns a lot but is having fun as well, and the studio itself is so pretty, clean, and well run. You can find more information about it here, be sure to click around and watch the ad for our new Angelina Ballerina classes!

Now to recover from the recital and get my house back in order!!!
